Kate's stunning scarlet number was a controversial choice

Kate Middleton‘s bright red Alexander McQueen dress might look familiar because Tulisa Contostavlos stepped out in it last summer for The X Factor auditions in Liverpool.

Kate, 30, wore the long-sleeved version for the Queen’s Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant yesterday teamed with a Sylvia Fletcher hat from royal milliner James Lock & Co, a scarf made of Strathearn tartan and nude shoes

The outfit – which emphasised her slim waist – certainly made the Duchess of Cambridge stand out on a dull and rainy day, but she’s been criticised for the eye-popping number because all eyes were on her.

Kate‘s sister Pippa wore blue and her mother Carole chose white for a patriotic red, white and blue theme.

Prince William‘s 86-year-old grandmother Queen Elizabeth II – who’s celebrating 60 years on the throne – also wore white.

Today the Diamond Jubilee Concert takes place in front of Buckingham Palace.

Stars performing include Gary Barlow, Annie Lennox, Robbie Williams, Will.i.am, Jessie J, Cliff Richard, Ed Sheeran, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Paul McCartney.
