Transform your old summer wardrobe into autumn/winter with these easy instant fashion updates
We’ve admired her togs on the telly on MTV, E! and The Clothes Show and love her fashion brand Stylistpick. But who knew that Louise Roe cuts up her own jeans to give her wardrobe a much-needed new season boost? And that she uses a £3 beauty trick to make her hair look just so?
Here we get exclusive insight into exactly what Louise is wearing for the new season, which items she’s recycling and her super quick – and cheap – beauty tricks.
Are there any staple pieces of clothing you are going to be re-wearing from last year – how are you going to update them to new season?
Always! That’s the fun part. I have just cut rips in some black and white jeans, which has given them a new feel.
I also just dredged out some felt fedoras I hadn’t worn for a year or two, and changed the ribbon around them.
I bought a couple of new belts too, to switch up the look of various dresses and jumpsuits.
What are your secret styling tricks? Do you have any secret products that you recommend and use?
I don’t leave the house without a little can of dry shampoo, it gives my hair volume and a matte texture, Tresemme does baby cans that fit in your handbag.
Do you have anything that can make you feel brilliant if you have only 2 minutes to freshen up?
A Mario Badescu facial spritz, and l’eau de Chloe perfume.
What fashion and beauty UK buys do you miss most now you’re based in the US?
Oh the entire high street! Nothing beats it. But luckily Zara, H&M, Reiss and TopShop have made their way to America.
What is different about the style in the US compared to London?
I think New York style is similar to London, lots of leather, denim, people doing their own thing, but LA is very different. Perhaps because of the weather, people wear cute rompers, printed maxi dresses and bright shorts here. You see more colour and print, which I love.
What are your top buys for A/W to instantly update your look for the new season?
I just bought a pair of thigh-high burgundy suede boots from Piperlime, and they look awesome just with jeans and a sweater.
A cream cable knit roll-neck jumper is cosy and chic, a little patent shoulder bag, a printed silk scarf to wrap around the chain of my bag strap, and some chunky gold jewellery from Giles & Brother. I’m obsessed with that brand at the moment.
I also love my new metallic leather Zoe Jordan clutch bag for the BFC Contemporary Shop – I pair it with a T-shirt and jeans with brogues during the day and a silver embroidered skirt, simple white shirt and pointy heels in the evening.
What are you secret online shopping hotspots?
Piperlime, eBay – especially the pop up boutique BFC Contemporary Store, Bluefly, Intermix and the LIKEtoKNOW.It app on Instagram.
What were your favourite shows here and in NY?
Marchesa showing in London for their anniversary was very special, and of course Burberry. I need to get my hands on one of their blankets! In New York, I loved the prints at Clover Canyon and Mara Hoffman.
