From dealing with different time zones to handling the flight, Rochelle Humes is full of useful mum tips
She’s been 1/5 of one of the world’s most successful girl bands, is a fully fledged TV presenter and she’s recently turned her hand to fashion design. Is there NOTHING Rochelle Humes can’t do?
We’re going to have to go with a no on that one, because as well as all her other talents, Rochelle is also an amazing mum to her daughter Alaia-Mai, who turns two in May.
The singer, who is married to The Voice host Marvin Humes, chatted to us at the launch of her clothing collection for Very.co.uk about her up comingholiday plans.
‘I’ve just got back from Dubai, but I’m really hoping to get away for a family holiday this summer,’ Rochelle tells us.
‘When we go away I try and give Alaia a bottle on take off so she gets sleepy and is settled by the time we’re in the air.
‘Along with essentials like lip balm and mini moisturiser, I’m always weighed down with things for her – mainly baby wipes!
‘I always try to book a day flight rather than a night flight when we go away, that way it’s easier for her to get settled in to a new time zone. If it’s day time when we arrive I try and keep her awake for as long as possible – it means I have a hellish first 12 hours but after that she’s fine!
‘Alaia loves her toys on holiday – one year we bought an inflatable turtle from a random shop and it’s travelled with us ever since! She absolutely adores it as she can sit in it and fill it up with a little water so it’s like a mini paddling pool. She really enjoys it. It always buys us an hour if we want a bit of peace on holiday!’
Sounds like Rochelle has become a bit of a pro at holiday packing, but what’s her top tip?
‘I always pack my shoes around the edge of my case to protect my clothes. Wearing the heaviest items means I don’t go over my baggage allowance, and I always carry hats so they don’t get squashed! I look ridiculous going through security,’ she laughs.
‘I have a drawer under my bed which is full to the brim with my holiday essentials from kaftans to jean shorts. Every time I go away I literally just tip it into my case – all my holiday pictures are always the same because I never buy anything new!’
She’s a girl after own hearts!
