She's booed off stage at her St Lucia comeback gig
Amy Winehouse’s hotly anticipated return to the stage at the St Lucia Jazz Festival after an 8-month break proved a huge disappointment to fans.
Tottering on to the stage in a blue minidress, high heels and her trademark beehive, Amy, 25, acted erratically from the start, facing away from the audience and struggling to stay upright.
After forgetting song lyrics and mumbling her way through one track, the star’s disastrous performance came to an end when she was booed off the stage and retorted at the audience: ‘F*** you!’
So what went wrong this time with the notoriously troubled singer?
Amy’s spokesman tried to blame weather conditions and technical difficulties, but according to reports the act straight after Amy performed without incident, despite the torrential rain.
Then her people tried to pin it on the split from her estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
‘It’s the first time Amy’s sung those songs for a long time. They brought back all her memories of Blake,’ said her spokesman.
Perhaps the other reported cause – a 6-hour drinking binge before the performance – is the real reason.
It’s the latest in a list of disasters for Amy, who’s been based in St Lucia since April. Already this year she’s denied an assault charge after allegedly punching a fan, faced messy battles with her ex and was hospitalised this month for dehydration.
In a statement released just before her ill-fated performance, Amy gushed that singing at the festival would be an ‘honour’ and stated that singing there would be a way of saying thank you ‘to an island of people who have been so welcoming to me’.
We’re betting the locals would see you leaving their island as enough of a thank you, Amy.
