Just two months after announcing his separation from Jennifer, Brad posed with Angelina as a 1960s married couple surrounded by children for W magazine. Jennifer later reacted by saying her ex is missing a ‘sensitivity chip’.
Now with six beautiful children they dote on – Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, twins Knox and Vivienne, six – we take a look at the 5 reasons why theirs in the greatest Hollywood love story of all time…
1. They became best friends from the moment they met
After meeting on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith in 2004, Angelina says the two remained ‘very, very good friends’ after they finished filming until after Brad and Jen announced their separation in January 2005.
Talking about the time they spent together before Brad’s marriage split, Ange said it was ‘not as exciting as what a lot of people would like to believe.’
She explained: ‘We spent a lot of time contemplating and thinking and talking about what we both wanted in life and realised that we wanted very, very similar things.
‘And then we just continued to take time. We remained very, very good friends – with this realisation – for a long time. And then life developed in a way where we could be together, where it felt like something we would do, weshould do.’
2. She still cries when she sees Brad playing with their kids!
She said: ‘It’s such a beautiful and sexy quality in a man when he takes his responsibilities as a father very seriously. I still get very emotional when I watch Brad play with the children – he is so naturally devoted and joyful around them.’
3. They’re happiest just lounging around at home
She said: ‘We stay really connected. We actually don’t go out much. It’s funny. We’re very homebound. We’re very much Mommy and Daddy in our pyjamas.’
4. The way he supported her through her mastectomy
In May 2013 Angelina revealed that she had undergone a preventative double mastectomy after tests revealed she carries the BRCA1 cancer gene, leaving her with an 87% chance of contracting breast cancer.
Brad supported her throughout the whole ordeal. He said at the time: ‘She has always been the brave, bold individual that
I fell for. And as sexy as ever.’ A million hearts
5. They write love letters to each other when they’re apart
The couple found themselves apart for the first time in their 10 year relationship when Angelina was directing film Unbroken in Australia and Brad was in London playing a soldier in Fury.
So, how did they keep the long distance spark alive? By handwriting love letters to each other!
Angelina explained: ‘This was the first time that Brad and I worked apart and in a way it was quite romantic.
‘We decided to think of wartime when people were separated for months, if not years, and we decided to pretend we were of that time and make it romantic.
‘It was as if Brad was in the European theatre and I was in the Pacific theatre and we wrote hand-written letters to each other.
‘It was very connecting for us and it was a nice thing to do.’
