Hit song increases tension between warring brothers

Noel Gallagher has hit out at brother Liam’s performance at the Olympics Closing Ceremony on Sunday night, likening it to an Oasis tribute band’.

Liam, 39, sang the band’s hit Wonderwall with his group Beady Eye for 26 million TV viewers, but his rendition didn’t impress songwriter Noel, who sang the number himself at a charity gig in Camden in London this week with his own band High Flying Birds.

‘I know this is gonna be difficult for you,’ Noel, 45, told the modest crowd.

‘But if you can’t sing along to this next song, it’s because it sounds different when I sing it.

‘I’d like to dedicate this to Stratford’s finest Oasis tribute band.’

Noel was originally lined up for the Olympics gig but changed his plans because he believes in authenticity on stage.

‘They wanted me to mime. I love that,’ Noel told XFM radio.

‘It would save me a lot of messing about. But if you’re in a stadium with 80,000 people… you’re pretending.’

Of course, if Liam hadn’t stepped in, One Direction could have performed their version of Wonderwall with Niall Horan on acoustic guitar…
