Kate and Wills' baby is due this month

The Royal Mint will give all babies born on the same day as Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s first child a lucky silver coin.

Kate and Wills, both 31, are due to become parents this month, with Kate‘s due date thought to be 13 July.

And all other tots who arrive that day will receive a special penny to commemorate the occasion.

The coins, which come in either a blue or pink pouch, are accompanied by a cute teddy bear card and the message ‘solid sterling silver good luck penny’.

Crossing a newborn baby’s palm with silver is traditionally thought to bring good health and fortune.

Shane Bissett, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, tells the Daily Mirror: The birth will be a joyous occasion for the whole nation.

It will also be a special day for many mothers and fathers across the country as they, too, welcome their new baby.’

Parents will have 60 days after their child’s birth to claim the coin on the Royal Mint’s Facebook page.

It’s a rather different approach to that of the Finnish government, who sent the royal couple condoms as part of a care package.
