The Royals have announced Kate Middleton is expecting

The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.

Following months of speculation, St James’s Palace has today confirmed the happy news.

In a statement on the couple’s website, they said: ‘Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.’

A spokesman said the Duchess, 30, has been admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in central London with very acute morning sickness and is expected to stay for several days.

It is understood the pregnancy is still in its very early stages, and the Duchess’s medical treatment  was what prompted the Palace to announce the news.

Both families are said to be ‘delighted.’

Prime Minister David Cameron said on Twitter: ‘I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby.’
