One Direction vs. Take That - could this be the tightest competition in pop history?

The pressure is ON for two of the biggest boy bands in pop history, One Direction and Take That, as they announce plans to release their new singles on the same day – this Friday.

One Direction will get a slight headstart, releasing their new single ‘Perfect’ – rumoured to be about Harry Styles’ ex Taylor Swift – on Nick Grimshaw’s breakfast show on Radio 1. The following evening, Take That will perform their tune ‘Hey boy’ on the first episode of newly-revived series ‘TFI Friday’.

It’s tight competition for the bands: One Direction holds a place in the Guinness World Records 2015 Book for the first act to debut at No.1 with their first three albums, while Take That have twice won the record for fastest-selling tour of all times with their 2009 Circus tour and their 2011 Progress Live tour.

But which band will bag the top spot? While we would applaud either talented bunch, we can’t help but think a No.1 single would be a great way for the One Direction boys to finish before their plans to take a break early next March. Then again, pop veterans Take That have been killing it since their 2005 reunion – will the more experienced band win out?

Eek! It’s nail-bitingly close. WATCH THIS SPACE.
