Singer beats Britney Spears, Madonna and Justin Timberlake to the top spot
Beyoncé Knowles has been voted the World’s Greatest Popstar.
The singer beat the likes of Britney Spears, Madonna and P!nk to the title in the Rimmel London Presents The World’s Greatest Popstar series.
Over 100,000 people voted online to name Beyoncé the new No 1 artist in pop.
Over the last few weeks, T4 and 4Music have broadcast a series of programmes hosted by Edith Bowman, showing a selection of industry experts and celebrities talking about who they think deserves the title.
Britney, Eminem, Girls Aloud, Justin Timberlake, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, P!nk, Robbie Williams and Take That were all in the running.
Beyoncé came in top ahead of Britney, Eminem and P!nk who took second, third and fourth place.
‘Beyoncé is a true global superstar and is well known for her flexible artistic style, from her powerful R’N’B ballads through to her brilliant dance anthems,’ says Head of Music and T4, Chanel 4 Neil McCallum.
‘It is no great surprise that she’s won the hearts and minds of our audiences and so deserves the title of The World’s Greatest Popstar.’
The results were announced by Edith Bowman on stage at yesterday’s T4 Stars Of 2009 show at Earls Court in London.
