The Britain's Got Talent judge talks motherhood, marriage - and acts that make her cry

Yay, Britain’s Got Talent is back! And to mark its return we caught up with judge Alesha Dixon, 36, who revealed she’s all loved-up with her partner Azuka Ononye, 33, and their 18-month-old baby daughter Azura.

Hi Alesha! Azura is so adorable – is she a happy baby?
She smiles so much. She’s made me determined to be happy all the time. I want to set the best example I can to her.

Is she talking yet?
She’s chatting away – she says ‘Mummy’. Azuka and I look at each other and we can’t quite believe we’ve created this wonderful daughter.

Any sign she’s following in your footsteps?
Azura’s very musical already, actually. She loves dancing.

Is it hard juggling motherhood with your career?
I’m busy but I try to find plenty of time to be with Azura as well as planning lots of work.

What has becoming a mum taught you so far?
Without sounding too corny, it’s made me a better person. I’m always rushing around but she’s made me stand still for a minute and take in everything. I want to enjoy being with Azura and for her to have a beautiful childhood.

Have you and Azuka talked marriage?
I’m in no rush but I’m not ruling it out. He has to ask me first!

What about date nights?
They’re so important. We go for dinners and we saw Fifty Shades Of Grey at the cinema recently. We were chuffed to get out of the house! It’s hard to find time, but as Amanda Holden told us recently when we were all out together, we need to get to a place where we’re OK about being away from the baby for ‘us time’.

What can we expect from the new series of BGT?
There’s plenty of banter and loads of fun and crazy acts again! David [Walliams] has been a wind-up merchant and he and Simon [Cowell] are constantly trying to embarrass Amanda and me. We know how to get back at them, though, don’t you worry!

What’s Simon like as a dad?
Eric‘s been on set during the auditions. Simon‘s been so lovely. But he’s been very mischievous this year too – he loves his jokes and pranks. I find him so funny.

Have any acts made you cry yet?
I’ve had some teary moments. It’s normally when they tell you their story – you make a connection with them. There are the heartfelt moments but there are also plenty of laughs – that’s why I love it so much.
