Ryan Howell was a member of the choir Only Boys Aloud on Britain's Got Talent in 2012

A former Britain’s Got Talent contestant has tragically died from a rare form of cancer, aged just 18. Ryan Howell, who came third in the competition three years ago as part of the choir Only Boys Aloud, was diagnosed last year with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and passed away at home in his mother’s arms.

Ryan’s Britain’s Got Talent success came before his diagnosis, and his mum Donna, 43, says he was a born entertainer.

‘He liked to make people laugh. That was his goal. He had an infectious smile,’ she told The Mirror. ‘He was the best son I could have ever had.’

His friends in Only Boys Aloud also expressed their grief on social media. On the choir’s Twitter, they posted: ‘We were deeply saddened to hear the news about Ryan. He was a much valued former member of Only Boys Aloud and we shared some great times together. Our thoughts are with Ryan’s friends and family.’

Ryan died on August 23, after collapsing at his family home. His mum says she’ll treasure the recordings she has of her son performing on Britain’s Got Talent.

Our thoughts are with Ryan’s friends and family.
