Actor sentenced to rehab

Charlie Sheen has reached a plea deal to avoid a prison sentence as part of a domestic violence case.

As part of the agreement, the actor pleaded guilty at a court hearing in Aspen, Colorado, yesterday to a misdemeanour assault charge.

In exchange, a felony menacing charge and a criminal mischief charge were dropped.

Charlie, 44, was sentenced to 30 days in rehab at the Promises Treatment Center in California.

He has also been placed on probation and must complete 36 hours of domestic violence counselling.

‘I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me,’ reads a statement from Charlie.

The sentence comes after he was arrested on Christmas Day following an alleged dispute with wife Brooke Mueller, 32.
