Singer reflects on early days

Cheryl Cole, 29, has revealed the style advice she’d give her 18-year-old self.

The singer might now be a global sensation, but she started out fighting for a place in Girls Aloud as a contestant on 2002 talent show Popstars: The Rivals.

Reflecting on her journey to fame in an interview with Grazia, she says she was a naive teenager when she entered the competition.

‘I was really innocent and naive then and young, very young – 18 I think I was,’ she says.

‘It was just a tiny little room in a hotel lobby.’

She goes on to let slip the advice she’d give her former self.

‘Change your outfit. Change your hair,’ she says.

Cheryl‘s just finished travelling the UK on a reunion tour with Girls Aloud and and says she’s excited to take time off.

‘It’s exciting to have no plans for once,’ she says.

‘I got a little way in with the third album then put it to one side to concentrate on the girls, so I don’t know.’
