Jean-Bernard's wife reflects on first marriage

Cheryl Cole admits her marriage to first husband Ashley wasn’t all bad.

The singer split from footballer Ashley, 33, in 2010 following allegations that he’d been unfaithful to her but their four-year union was generally quite harmonious.

‘There was no horribleness. Apart from what happened at the end,’ says Cheryl, 31.

‘My marriage wasn’t bad. I wasn’t tret [treated] badly. I wasn’t a victim. We weren’t arguing. Nothing like that.

‘It was just weakness on his behalf. Which is unfortunate. But. It happens.’

Cheryl, who recently got hitched for a second time to French love Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, managed to learn some positive lessons from the bad outcome of her marriage to Ashley.

‘You know what I also realised these past years? I refuse to let somebody else’s s**tty behaviour change me fundamentally,’ Chezza tells The Times Magazine.

‘So because you treat me like s**t, I’m not going to become bitter and twisted.

‘I’m going to remain the person I am, with the values and beliefs that I had, and let you deal with your s**t.’
