But a traditional note will be posted on the gates of Buckingham Palace as well

Spreading news of the arrival of the Duchess of Cambridge‘s baby will be very different from Prince William‘s birth in 1982.

Then, as is traditional, a note announcing the birth of the new Royal baby was posted on the gates of Buckingham Palace.

In the 21st century, the news that Kate Middleton, 31, is a new mum will instead be announced first on the Clarence House website, which links – inevitably – to Twitter.

There will still be a notice on the Palace gates, but we can expect the news to be trending long before the first tourist on The Mall gets to see it.
