The presenters' families keep them down-to-earth

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are never likely to let fame go to their heads – their mums will make sure of that.

Despite being 38, Ant admits that his mother Christine has no problem telling him off when he’s misbehaved – and he’s sure Dec‘s family is exactly the same.

‘I think both of us have been given dressing downs by our mums! For me, it’s when I’m late. I got into this habit where I would turn up late and be like: “But it’s only 20 minutes,”‘ says Ant.

‘Then my mum would just turn around and say: “You shouldn’t be late at all, I’m not having that!” So I used to get a slap on the wrist and I learnt that I couldn’t allow myself to be late for things.’

Ant and Dec, 38, are still celebrating after winning three gongs at the National Television Awards last week, including the prestigious Landmark Award.

Both Christine and Dec‘s mother Anne surprised their sons by sneaking into the audience to see them being honoured for their 25-year career – and they were thrilled to see them.

‘They flew our mums down,’ says Dec.

‘We had no idea!’
