The actress wanted to continue to influence Erin's life
Bernie Nolan left a moving diary for her daughter Erin to read before she lost her battle with cancer last Thursday.
The former Brookside actress poignantly wrote down memories of her and Erin‘s time together for the 14-year-old to look back on in the future.
‘Erin was Bernie‘s whole world, and she wanted to continue to be able to influence her life,’ says Bernie‘s sister Linda.
‘So she left a diary for her. It is personal between mother and daughter – full of the memories they share.’
Despite being on oxygen and in a wheelchair, Bernie enjoyed reminiscing with her husband Steve Doneathy and her family before she passed away aged 52 at her home in Weybridge, Surrey.
They took her to their local cricket club for Pimms, had a barbecue at her house and got the cast of Chicago to sing Razzle Dazzle to her in a surprise performance.
‘When we knew the time was close on Wednesday we opened champagne to toast Bernie‘s life,’ Linda tells the Daily Mirror.
‘We put a glass next to her bed, she would have gone mad if we had left her out! On Thursday we got up early to be with her.
‘Steve and Erin held her close. We told her not to be frightened and that we loved her. At 10.10am her breathing changed. I felt beyond devastated.’
