Coleen is thrilled for her hubby
It was announced yesterday that Wayne, 28, had taken over Nemanja Vidić‘s role after 10 years of playing for the Premier League club and Coleen, 28, is delighted.
‘So pleased for @WayneRooney on becoming Man Utd captain! Fully deserved after the continuous hard work he puts into the team year after year,’ Tweeted Coleen.
Forward Wayne – who has sons Kai, 4, and one-year-old Klay with Coleen – was in his teens when he first joined Manchester United in 2004.
He’s now netted 216 goals for the team, making him their third-highest scorer behind legendary players Bobby Charlton and Denis Law.
Wayne can’t wait to start kicking more balls in the net as captain.
‘It is a huge honour for me – and for my family – to be named captain of this great club. It is a role I will perform with great pride,’ says Wayne on Man U’s website.
‘Team spirit has always been very high in our dressing room and I am very grateful to the manager for the faith he has shown in me.’
