The ladette-turned-mum on how her life has changed
Denise Van Outen, 37, gave birth to daughter Betsy in May 2010 and she’s embracing being a mum.
I’ve been amazed at the patience I’ve found in myself,’ she says. I used to be borderline OCD about my home and always kept it spotless.
‘A friend came round the other day and was like: “I never thought I’d see this.” There were toys everywhere, Play-Doh up the wall…’
So what has Mrs Lee Mead learnt from motherhood?
‘It’s a cliche but it’s true: being a mum is the hardest job in the world but so rewarding,’ admits Denise.
‘I remember thinking that everything would carry on as normal once she arrived, so the whole thing came as a bit of a shock to me.
‘The hardest thing has been the tiredness and the strain a baby can put on a relationship.
‘When I hear people thinking about having a baby to try to fix a broken relationship, it just seems like the worst thing anyone could do.
‘Even the strongest marriage is put to the test. Lee and I are really lucky because we’ve got through it and helped each other out.’
