Lee has moved out of the couple's home
The couple – who are parents to daughter Betsy, 3 – are said to have ‘grown apart’ and ‘fallen out of love’ after spending months away from each other working.
‘Following continued speculation, Denise Van Outen and Lee Mead are sad to confirm they have decided to separate,’ reads a joint statement.
‘The couple remain the best of friends, with their daughter Betsy as their No 1 priority. The family ask for privacy at this time.’
The pair met when Denise, 39, was a judge on BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007 – which Lee, 32, won – and they married two years later.
Lee recently returned from a long stint trying to make it as an actor in LA while Denise has holidayed six times on her own over the past year.
It’s reported that Lee has now moved out of the north London flat they share and is living near his current job at the Vaudeville Theatre, where he’s starring in West End Men.
‘The spark just faded after a while. There hasn’t been a big blow-out but they are now having a trial separation and coming to terms with going their separate ways,’ a source tells The Sun.
‘They hardly saw each other over the last nine months because of their work commitments. The distance just became too difficult to overcome.’
