Glee actors Cory and Lea talked about a future together

He was the fun-loving, bashful jock on Glee.

But in real life Cory Monteith had a dark side – one that tragically led the 31-year-old star to die alone in a hotel room after overdosing on heroin and booze.

His death on 13 July has left co-star and girlfriend of over 18 months Lea Michele ‘devastated beyond belief’ and fans around the world overcome with grief.

Despite rumours of a split earlier this year, Lea and Cory were said to be blissfully happy before he died – with some US sites even claiming they were secretly engaged.

A pal says this wasn’t the case, but it was certainly on the cards.

‘They’d talked marriage and kids openly,’ says the source.

Lea knew what she wanted for her wedding and what kind of ring.

Cory was thinking of proposing – and in the not too distant future.’

He had previously said: ‘I want to get married and have children and live happily ever after.’

The couple had been smitten since going public in 2012.

Cory‘s director pal Gia Milani says: ‘He said she’d made him a better person.’

And in January Lea said: ‘For the first time I feel settled and happy.

‘He makes me feel I can do anything.’
