The actress got to grips with some risqué moves to play teen robber Nicki
Emma Watson took up a raunchy hobby to prepare for her role in new film The Bling Ring.
The Harry Potter actress, 22, started pole dancing to make sure she could pull off a saucy scene as teen robber Nicki.
‘I did learn to pole dance for the film. But it’s not a performance for anyone else; it’s just me messing around with my friends,’ says Emma.
‘I took lessons. When I was preparing for the role I was studying at Oxford.
‘So I had this surreal experience where I was studying the modernists, writing about Virginia Woolf on Friday night, then driving to London for pole dancing classes on Saturday morning.’
The Bling Ring is based on the true story of a group of fame-obsessed youngsters who burgled a number of celebrities’ homes between 2008-2009.
Emma found it interesting to play a ‘superficial and vain’ character that she ‘hated’ – but admits she struggled getting to grips with Nicki‘s pole dancing talent.
‘I was incredibly ungraceful at first. The upper-body strength and the core strength you need to do it gracefully is crazy,’ Emma tells GQ.
‘I take my hat off to the women who can do it. You have to be incredibly strong.’
