Who’s the real James Arthur? An arrogant, nasty bad boy? Quite the opposite. The X Factor winner tells Now why he’s so misunderstood

It’s nearly a year since James Arthur won The X Factor and frankly, we’re relieved to finally hear his music (he’s kept us hanging but it’s been worth the wait).

Yet despite enjoying huge success – his brill new single You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You hit No 2 – the 25-year-old reveals he’s still single.

‘I’m so single it’s unreal,’ James tells us.

‘I tried to get into a relationship recently but the girl thinks I’m a player and it f*cked things up for us.

‘I don’t know if that ship’s sailed. I was accused of being with glamour model Lacey Banghard and I wasn’t.

‘I texted her a long while ago and she told one of her mates who told someone else and then suddenly everyone said I’m seeing her!’

James insists he hasn’t ‘done that much’ philandering and would now like to find someone special to love.

‘I only want one girl because when your life’s very disjointed it’s a healthy thing,’ he says.

‘There’s no satisfaction in going out shagging different girls every night of the week.

‘I was made out to be this womaniser and I’m actually a geek.

‘If I had the choice of shagging a glamour model or being in the studio all night making a tune, I’d go for the latter. I don’t trust many girls.

‘But I like a girl to have a sense of humour and pretty eyes. If she’s hot as well, that’s a bonus.

‘Things I’ve said in the past have made me sound like some sort of sleazebag who just wants to shag Page 3 models, but I don’t.

‘And when I was accused of shagging prostitutes – it was complete fabrication.’
