The actor is 'extremely proud' of how his kids handled the news

Johnny Depp has revealed that he and Vanessa Paradis were completely honest with their two children when they split last year.

The pair didn’t want to skirt around the issue with daughter Lily-Rose, 14, and son Jack, 11, and told them straight that they were ending their 14-year relationship.

‘When you have children, there is no room for lies, no room for anything but the truth. Anything other than that is a bad example, I believe,’ says Johnny, 50.

‘We were just very truthful with them and they were just incredibly understanding, incredibly accepting. I was extremely proud of them, the way they dealt with it.’

Johnny – who’s now dating bisexual actress Amber Heard – recently admitted that his break-up with Vanessa, 40, was ‘bumpy’ but that he’ll always care for her.

He’s now focused on making sure his kids get through their tricky teen years – but is a little worried about them acting out like he did.

‘You know you start getting hit with some very interesting situations in life… as a parent when they approach that teenage area,’ Johnny tells CBS’s This Morning.

‘Which is frightening because you still have memories of that age and the things you were doing at that age… please don’t do what I did.’
