Diane Gibson fled shortly before being sentenced in 2000
Josie Gibson‘s grandmother has been caught after going on the run for 12 years to avoid being sentenced for drug dealing.
Diane Gibson was found with 3kg of cocaine worth £240,000 in the boot of her car and convicted of having the drug with intent to supply in 2000.
But the 72-year-old – described at the time as an ‘evil woman’ – disappeared and officers suspected she’d fled to Spain and changed her appearance.
On Tuesday, Gibson was found at her daughter Kay‘s home in Yay, Bristol with the help of a tip-off and it’s now believed she spent most of the last 10 years in the north of England.
Gibson appeared in court later that day and has been remanded in custody pending a further hearing early next month.
Her defence Giles Nelson said she hadn’t accepted her conviction and was planning to appeal against it.
Big Brother winner Josie, 28, was in the public gallery to watch her grandma’s hearing and later spoke out in support of her on Twitter.
‘A few articles about my Nan just to clear up people don’t know the truth. I lived with her and my aunty and she is heavily against drugs!’ Tweeted Josie.
