The couple enjoy a rare public display of affection at the Velodrome

Prince William scooped Kate Middleton up into a big hug as they celebrated Team GB cyclist Sir Chris Hoy winning his 5th Olympic gold medal yesterday.

The royal couple whooped and cheered as Chris and his team mates Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes rode to victory in the men’s team sprint event.

Kate and Wills were joined by William‘s brother Prince Harry, 27, and Prime Minister David Cameron at the Velodrome, who were seen high-fiving each other in the crowd.

The win cheered all 4 up after Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish were disqualified from the women’s team sprint for making an illegal change-over in the semi-final.

Wills and Kate, both 30, had earlier enjoyed taking part in a Mexican wave as they watched tennis player Andy Murray triumph in his quarter-final match against Spain’s Nicolas Almagro.
