Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton is honoured at Buckingham Palace

The fashion designer who created Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress was awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

Kate‘s father-in-law Prince Charles shook Sarah Burton‘s hand as she received her accolade for services to the British fashion industry.

Sarah – who’s creative director for Alexander McQueen – also designed Pippa Middleton‘s bridesmaid’s frock for Kate‘s big day with Prince William in April 2011.

Aside from the royals, Sarah has made dresses for celebrities including Michelle Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga.

‘I’ve been given some amazing opportunities, and then having the honour of doing the wedding dress, that was a real honour,’ said Sarah.

‘It came completely out of the blue. I felt very privileged.’
