The singer defends his decision to send support to Willie Robertson
Liam Payne has hit back after being accused of being homophobic because of a Tweet about a US reality TV show.
The One Direction singer, 20, was blasted for telling Willie Robertson – who appears on reality show Duck Dynasty – that he had ‘huge respect’ for his family on Saturday.
The message caused controversy because Willie‘s dad Phil was temporarily suspended from the programme last year after allegedly making anti-gay remarks in an interview with GQ magazine.
‘@williebosshog huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold. big fan,’ Tweeted Liam.
After being called ‘disgusting’ and an ‘idiot’, Liam was quick to respond: ‘Being a fan of someones show and the way they still hold a family together doesnt mean i am ok with all they say.
‘people can love who they want , its none of my business.’
The 1D star stopped Tweeting about the incident for a few hours but later returned to the site to rage about the hundreds of news articles being written on it.
‘What I gotta do to please you bastards I’m a 20 year old just living life as you did when u where twenty but in extraordinary circumstances,’ Tweeted Liam.
‘I just watched a show and I liked it as most people do stop sitting in my twitter and do your research #lazyjournos.
‘Sick of all this bull il be back again when the freedom of speech law is back and people don’t believe to much into the bulls#!t they read.
‘Pick ur balls up off the floor and get on with it instead of taking advantage of every word said and twisting it for your own gain.’
