The band are loved in America
One Direction celebrated with front row seats at a basketball match after finding out Up All Night had reached No 1 in America last night.
The boys have become the first ever British group to go straight to the top spot of the US Billboard 200 chart with their debut album.
‘We went out to watch the Knicks play against the Toronto Raptors,’ says Liam.
‘We got to sit courtside, so that was quite nice!’
Louis Tomlinson, 20, Zayn Malik, 19, plus Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, all 18, finished supporting Big Time Rush on their Stateside tour earlier this month but have since stayed in the country to promote their record.
And they’ve proved hugely popular, with extra security even being called in for them because of worries for their safety amid crowds of fans.
‘Everything has happened so quickly it’s little bit of a shock to be honest with you,’ Liam told ITV1’s Daybreak in a phone call from the US this morning.
‘We didn’t expect to be over here, even release an album let alone be the first to debut at No 1.
‘I don’t think it’s quite hit home yet really – it’s quite strange.’
