Emily MacDonagh went into labour early in flooded Somerset
However, like much in Pete‘s life, the arrival of his baby wasn’t without its share of drama.
Now can exclusively reveal that Pete, 40, and his girlfriend Emily MacDonagh, 24, were forced to make an emergency plan after her contractions started three weeks early – 150 miles from his Surrey home and in the middle of the flood-hit Somerset countryside.
Speaking to Now, one close friend of the couple says: ‘Pete and Emily were shocked. Their baby girl was very early, so it was a surprise to them both.’
Pete had been staying with Emily‘s doctor parents Ruaraidh, 55, and Rebecca, 49, in their large family home on the outskirts of a rural village near North Petherton, Somerset.
They’d been there for a spot of relaxation over Christmas and New Year, but got a shock when last Tuesday medical student Emily went into labour three weeks early.
She had to be taken to the NHS Musgrove Park Hospital in nearby Taunton, where her mum’s a paediatric consultant.
In a strange twist of fate, it was also where her surgeon dad first met Pete after operating on his kidney stones in 2010.
It’s understood Emily gave birth last Tuesday in the daytime. The hospital boasts the Bracken Birthing Centre, opened in 2008, offering a birthing pool and aromatherapy treatments.
