The comic reveals his political opinions

Russell Brand took on Jeremy Paxman during a fierce exchange on Newsnight yesterday.

Jeremy called Russell, 38, a ‘very trivial man’ when the comic revealed that he’d never voted because of ‘lies, treachery and deceit of the political class’ and spoke about his plans for a revolution.

‘The planet is being destroyed, we are creating an underclass, exploiting poor people all over the world,’ said Russell, who’s guest editing an edition of political magazine New Statesman.

‘The genuine legitimate problems of the world are not being addressed by our political parties. There is going to be a revolution, it’s totally going to happen. I don’t have a flicker of doubt.’

After Jeremy, 63, said he ‘wouldn’t argue’ with many of Russell‘s points, Katy Perry‘s ex retorted: ‘Then why do I feel so cross with you?

‘It can’t be because of that beard – it’s gorgeous, grow it longer, tangle it into your armpit hair.’

Russell‘s controversial appearance on the BBC show has caused mixed reactions on Twitter, although he’s gained some celebrity support.

‘Good ol’ @rustyrockets saying it how it is. #Newsnight . Bye , bedtime now,’ Tweeted Lily Allen after the show.
