Lou Reed is no longer with us

Musician Lou Reed has died.

The rock legend from New York, who had a liver transplant in May, founded The Velvet Underground as guitarist and lead singer/songwriter in the 1960s.

Lou, 71, penned hits including Walk On The Wild Side and Perfect Day.

He was born Lewis Allan Reed in Brooklyn, New York in 1942.

Lou‘s last Twitter post for his 48,000 followers this morning said simply: ‘The Door’ – with a link to an image of himself on a poster with ‘PAPA LOVES BABY’ scrawled beneath.

Fan Ricky Gervais Tweets: ‘RIP Lou Reed. One of the greatest artists of our time.’
