Uh-oh! It's not looking good for Coronation Street at the mo...
It’s not just cast members Coronation Street seem to be losing by the day, but loyal viewers too.
After it was announced that Alison King and Craig Charles have decided to leave the cobbles and call it a day, the ITV soap has now been hit with an even bigger blow.
Lifelong viewer Mary Berry, 80, has also decided its time for her own Great British switch-off of the show due to depressing storylines.
‘I used to watch Coronation Street, but it was totally different back then,’ Mary told Radio Times. ‘I don’t really want to watch the stuff that goes on now.
‘The fighting, the drama, the stories about rape, children out of wedlock – I want something a little bit happier on my television. Something gentle that’s not going to disturb and worry me.’
Well when you put it like that Mary, it doesn’t exactly sound like a barrel of laughs does it?
Following the news that 42-year-old Alison would be retiring her role as factory owner Carla Connor after ten years due to ‘creative reasons,’ and Craig, 50, has decided to quit to revive his role on BBC’s Red Dwarf – it’s not the best week for Corrie fans.
Here’s hoping the upcoming celeb cameos from Paddy Mcguinness, Sarah Harding and Shayne Ward will liven things up down the Rovers Return and cause a stir.
And, um, here’s also hoping some of them maybe stay on with a permanent role? We’re worried they’ll be no cast left at this rate!
New Coronation Street star Sarah Harding: It would be weird to kiss Shayne Ward on screen – he’s like my brother!
