The media star talks about his life on Desert Island Discs

TV and radio star Danny Baker has been given the all-clear from throat and mouth cancer.

The Radio 5 Live host revealed he had the illness in November as he began undergoing treatment to halt the disease. Now he’s ready to enjoy life again, as he always has done.

‘All I want to be is a great host,’ he told listeners on Desert Island Discs today.

‘I don’t see the point in having money in the bank. I live as if I have £20 million.

‘I once booked the family into the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York.’

Danny, 53, who left school at 14, borrowed £30,000 from best pal Chris Evans to pay his bills while he was ill as he had no savings to see him through the crisis.

‘I did the only thing I could do,’ he says.

‘I rang Chris and said, “You’re going to have to give me 30 grand”.’

Danny has now repaid the money.
