Manager Fabio Capello says he won't pick Becks for team

David Beckham is unlikely to play for England again.

Manager Fabio Capello, 64, says he won’t pick Becks, 35, for another competitive international game.

‘I need to change it,’ he says. ‘David is a fantastic player but I think we need new players for the future.’

Fabio says David – who made his England debut in 1996 – could make a final appearance in a friendly match so that he gets a proper send-off.

‘If he is fit, I hope we will play one more game here at Wembley so the fans can say goodbye,’ he adds.

But David isn’t ready to retire and is willing to fight for his place on the national team.

‘For your information, there has been no discussion of retirement,’ reads a statement from his agent.

‘He will always be available for his country, when fit and if needed he will be there.’

David has notched up 115 caps for England and captained the squad from 2000 until 2006.

He made his last appearance in October 2009 in a 3-0 win over Belarus.
