After sensationally quitting TOWIE and breaking up with Ferne, Charlie opens up to Now…
Three weeks ago Charlie Sims shocked TOWIE fans by suddenly announcing his departure from the show on his Twitter. In a series of posts, not only did he say he had quit the show, but also strongly insinuated that he had broken up with long-term girlfriend Ferne McCann – something that a heartbroken Ferne later confirmed us.
Charlie tweeted: ‘Stay true to who you are. Today I became me the real Charlie sims.. And so another chapter begins.’
‘So sad to not lose one.. But two people you love dearly to a TV show. Everyone can point the finger at me.. But I have morals. And dignity.
‘And some sort of self-respect. I wish @Chloe_Sims and @fernemccann the best with their lives. But always live knowing you chose the show.’
He added: ‘And finally to @TheOnlyWayOsEssex I won’t be taking part anymore. It’s time to grow up and move on. Wish eberyone the best on the show!’
Last night we caught up with Charlie at the Foxy Love Shop, where he opened up to us about why he left the show and admitted that he was already ‘a lot happier.’ He added: ‘They tried to say they sacked me, but I didn’t I quit.’
Explaining why he left the show, he told us: ‘I didn’t like the way I was being portrayed and I didn’t feel like I was being myself. I don’t feel like as a cast member who had been on it for two years that I was being treated fairly. I’d given a lot of my life to TOWIE, my personal life, my businesses, my family, everything I had was on that show and I don’t feel like I was treated how I wanted to be treated and in the end I thought “‘I have to walk out of this.'”
Speaking about his relationship with Ferne, Charlie shared: ‘It put a lot of strain on my relationship, it was becoming difficult to film together.
‘Even now I find it hard to watch Ferne on TV because I know her and before everybody else knew her. The Ferne I love and fell in love with isn’t the TOWIE Ferne that we all see. The TOWIE Ferne is a villain everyone loves to hate… That’s not the Ferne that I know. The Ferne I know is loving and caring and funny. When you see her and meet her, and spend more than what you see on the show you see that she’s such a sweet and beautiful person. She just doesn’t get portrayed that way and I find that quite upsetting.
‘I asked her to leave [the show] and she didn’t to want to. But she has her own dreams and ambitions and that’s cool.’
Since then Ferne has been really supportive of his decision to leave.
‘We’re very amicable, we’re good friends. She text me yesterday saying: “I just wanna say how amazing it was what you did, I really respect what you did, find it really inspirational because it was pretty brave.”
Sounds friendly for someone who got ‘dumped’ on Twitter…
‘She said she got dumped on twitter but we had spoken about it,’ insists Charlie.
‘I did ask her to leave before the twitter thing and I did say to her: “If you’re not gonna leave then this is not gonna work out.” And she was quite stubborn and said: “No I’m not gonna leave.” She had her choice and she chose to walk down that road and I’m not gonna tell someone what to do with their life. I gave her a choice and if she wanted to start a new life with me that’s fine, but she wanted to be Ferne from TOWIE.’
He added: ‘I wouldn’t have thought twice about leaving if Ferne wanted to leave, I would’ve handed my notice in there and then. She was the love of my life so why would I even have to think about it? Ferne thought about it and she chose something else, so it’s up to her I guess.’
He doesn’t completely rule out the on/off couple getting back together again.
‘You should never say never… I’ve got a lot of love for Ferne and she owns part of my heart that no one else will. But I think if somebody else did come along then she would be gutted that she didn’t walk out with me that day.’
