Amanda Holden, Meg Ryan and TOWIE's Lucy Mecklenburgh gave in to temptation

Kristen Stewart, 22, confessed to betraying Robert Pattinson, 26, after being snapped in the arms of married film director Rupert Sanders, 41.

From Cleopatra and Anne Boleyn to Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, women throughout history have cheated on their partners for the thrill of it.

Back in the 1700s, Queen of France Marie Antoinette (played by Kirsten Dunst in the 2006 film of the same name) was said to have been unfaithful to Louis XVI with the dashing Count Axel Von Fersen, after her husband became disinterested in her sexually.

But others insist she loved Louis XVI and would never have strayed.

Cut to 1962, movie icon Liz Taylor was unfaithful to hubby Eddie Fisher (dad of Star Wars actress Carrie) with Richard Burton.

She ended up marrying him.

They divorced after 10 years – then they famously remarried for another nine months in 1975.

BGT judge Amanda Holden’s affair with Men Behaving Badly actor Neil Morrissey was considered seriously shocking in 2000.

Her betrayal of comedian hubby Les Dennis became the subject of tabloid front pages and TV debates for days.

The same year, Meg Ryan, 50, became involved with Hollywood bad boy Russell Crowe behind hubby Dennis Quaid’s back while they filmed Proof Of Life.

She and Dennis divorced in 2001.

More recently, LeAnn Rimes, 29, was branded a wrecker of two homes in 2009 after she cheated on her man Dean Sheremet with US reality star Brandi Glanville’s actor husband Eddie Cibrian.

She went on to marry Eddie but is still struggling to shake off her ‘cheater’ tag.

And last year, TOWIE’s Lucy Mecklenburgh, 20, cheated on her now-fianc√© Mario Falcone with ex-lover Mark Wright.

Viewers saw her confessing all and begging for forgiveness.
