Gaz is lending a helping hand - aww!
Though it can seem as if celebrities live a life of non-stop parties, glamour and fun, on occasion the public get to see a more serious side, where they use their popularity to draw attention to the things they care about.
And for Gaz Beadle, this moment has arrived – as he’s called upon fans to help him reach the family of a Doncaster woman, after her Greek island holiday went painfully wrong.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning (10th August), the long-time Geordie Shore star alerted over half a million of fans on Facebook to the tragic tale of Laurie Jay Balfour – a holidaymaker in critical condition after a freak accident in a Zante nightclub.
Twenty-five year old Laurie was left fighting for her life on August 3rd, when a gas canister weighing 15 stone (95.2kg) fell from on her head, minutes after arriving at the club on the Laganas party strip. Sadly, at the time of writing, she is still in a coma.
Gaz is closely connected to Zante through having his very own establishment on that very strip: Pure BeachClub. And the TV star turned entrepreneur was very clearly touched by the story, and has made a pledge to help in any way he can – namely, by donating money to the family to help cover their living costs.
‘Ok so I just heard the horrible story of what has happened to Laurie Balfour in Zante!!’ Gaz, 28, begins. ‘And it’s so sad she is currently in hospital in Athens in a coma I know some of her family have flew out to see her but are struggling with funds etc to stay out there…
‘Please SHARE this or tag anyone who u know in there family or friends!!! I’ll do anything to help and tell the Mam and dad I’ll cover there hotel as long as they need to stay with her… Share it please want to get this sorted asap thank you’.
After sharing the same statement to his Twitter, Gaz’s words have now been shared thousands of times, with many fans telling him to contact her best friend, Becci Tomlinson.
This action has touched the hearts of not only his fans, but those close to Laurie. ‘So unbelievably kind!’ wrote one, while another commented: ‘Amazing at least that’s one less thing for her parents to worry about, love it when people pull together in times of need!’
And it’s hard to disagree – fantastic stuff! With this very public endorsement, hopefully it’ll provoke many people to contribute and help. All at Now send wishes for a steady recovery to Laurie, and love to her family and friends.
