Beyonce Knowles was the highlight of the weekend for many
The Destiny’s Child singer wore a glitzy gold jacket and black pants for her performance at Somerset’s Worthy Farm, completing her look with black sparkly boots and big hair.
‘I’m the first woman to ever headline the Pyramid stage – unbelievable!’ said Beyoncé, 29.
‘I only just found out 2 days ago. I am honoured, especially since my message is for women and I always try to make songs that I think we need to hear to encourage us.’
Beyoncé opened with Crazy In Love, following it up with a string of her hits including Single Ladies, If I Were A Boy and Halo.
In 2008 she was in the crowd watching Jay-Z as he became the first hip-hop act to headline the festival – a performance that Beyoncé says was the most exciting of her life.
‘I was like jumping up and down and history was made that night,’ she told BBC Radio 2.
‘I was so happy to be there and witness it for myself. I remember saying one day I would love to do a festival similar and never, ever thought I would be able to headline Glastonbury.’
