Brave actress finds her 'rock' after tragic loss

Lea Michele has revealed how she’s been coping with Cory Monteith‘s tragic death.

The Glee actress threw herself into work after boyfriend Cory, 31, died from a drugs and alcohol overdose in July and she used her debut album as an outlet for her emotions.

She’ll soon release Cannonball, the first single from the record that she recorded in August, and admits that it was tough for her loved ones to listen to.

I brought my dad to the studio and he cried the entire time,’ says Lea, 27.

But for me it’s been very empowering. I’ve used this song as a rock.

[It’s] more than just a song to me. It completely helped to lift me up at a time where I needed it.

Music can really help you in times of need, and that’s what this song did for me and I hope that’s what it does for others as well.’

Lea also credits her parents with helping her through the grieving process and is looking forward to spending Christmas with them.

My family has experienced a lot of loss in their life and they’ve been so wonderful in being there for me and giving me the strength I need,’ the brunette star tells People.

[I’ll spend the holidays] with mom and dad, simple this year. Maybe going to take a little holiday over New Year’s and just enjoy ourselves.’
