With a big helping of humble pie on his part!
The news was pretty shocking given that just last September when she joined ITV’s ratings rival Strictly Come Dancing, she revealed she hadn’t spoken to her former boss Simon Cowell since leaving ITV2’s The Xtra Factor – which she hosted for three years – at the end of 2013, replaced by Sarah-Jane Crawford. How quickly things change!
Caroline went on to steal the nation’s hearts when she took part in the BBC dancing competition with partner Pasha Kovalev – and in doing so won the praises of Simon, who she revealed ate
his fair share of humble pie when he clocked her success.
‘He sent me a lovely text saying how well I’ve been doing and he was really proud of me, so that was nice,’ she revealed after being crowned winner of Strictly, which trounced The X Factor
in the ratings.
It was this success and her can-do attitude that convinced Simon, 55, Caroline’s the right
girl for the job.
Speaking about her and Olly, 30, taking over, Simon gushed: ‘When they were on The Xtra Factor together, they were a brilliant double act. Since then, Caroline’s gone from strength to strength and Olly’s become one of Britain’s biggest stars. So now I’m looking forward to them fronting
the main show.’
Of course, the 35-year-old TV presenter knows she’s got a pretty tough act to follow. It was in March that Dermot O’Leary, 41, revealed he would finally be leaving the show following eight successful years at the helm, and Caroline’s already admitted to being nervous at the prospect of stepping into his shiny shoes.
‘I’m beyond excited about presenting The X Factor with Olly. I’m also incredibly lucky to have the best tips and support from my showbiz big brother Dermot. I’m not sure how I can live up to his long-term residency but I know I can’t let him down,’ revealed Caroline, who also posted a cute Instagram snap of herself with Olly and Dermot alongside the caption: ‘Love this photo… Had so much encouragement from @radioleary. He the man.’
Caroline’s been described as ‘one of the nicest women in showbiz’, with one newspaper saying: ‘There’s a clear sense that her career is in the ascent.’
And it seems like everyone wants a piece of her right now – she’s also set to present ITV show Love Island later this year.
This girl’s serious hot property, don’t ya know? Our ITV insider reveals: ‘It’s such a massive vote of confidence to have not one but two such high-profile TV series going on at the same time.’
The source adds that presenting both shows means Caroline will need to be overseas half of the week, then back in the UK for the remainder. ‘She won’t be appearing on every Love Island show, though. She’ll be more like Emma Willis on Big Brother – there for when the contestants leave and for special shows, so it’s not as much of a logistical nightmare as you might think,’ reveals our insider.
Caroline will no doubt be altering her usual effortlessly pretty girl-next-door style when she takes to The X Factor main stage later this year. The Norfolk-born presenter is planning on vamping up her look for the show, much like The Voice host Emma, who ditched her laid-back style for tailored suits, leather trousers and black figure-hugging dresses along with dark eyes and deep red lips.
She might be anxious about following in Dermot’s footsteps but we reckon Caroline will totally come up trumps. As for Dermot’s infamous ‘bulge’, well, over to you, Olly!
