Stephen Fry found a 'new lust for life' after falling in love with Elliott Spencer last summer
Actor and comedian Stephen Fry, 57, has confirmed he will marry his toyboy lover Elliott Spencer, 27, this year.
Stephen and Elliott have enjoyed a whirlwind romance after meeting in the summer and friends have revealed that even though he is 30 years his junior, Elliott has put a smile back on Stephen‘s face after his crippling battle with depression.
One friend told The Sun: ‘Since Stephen met Elliott it is like he has a new lust for life. We’ve got the old Stephen back. He has found new hope in Elliott and they thrive off each other.’
Meanwhile, Stephen has said ‘I’m very very happy,’ and Tweeted on Tuesday: ‘Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance! Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx.’
The happy couple became engaged just before Christmas when they gave a formal notice at a registry office in Dereham, Norfolk. The couple now have a year to marry before it expires.
The actor’s exciting news comes less than three years after he tried to kill himself with a cocktail of vodka and pills after admitting he struggled to cope with fame, loneliness and his split in 2010 with ex-partner Daniel Cohen, who he dated for 14 years and credited with ‘saving him’.
Unfortunately, this was Stephen‘s second attempt to kill himself after suffering from bipolar disorder.
After his split with ex Daniel, he admitted in June 2013 that he has also struggled with loneliness, saying: ‘Loneliness is the most terrible and contradictory of my problems. I hate having only myself to come home to,’ and admitted he felt, ‘lonely in a crowd of people who are mostly very nice to me.’
Now he doesn’t ever have to be lonely again. Super congrats Stephen and Elliott!
