Laura's ready to strut her stuff

Laura Whitmore has been confirmed as the latest celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2016 line-up – whoop!

The TV presenter, 31, becomes the first lady to be announced for the upcoming series of the show and she’s pretty excited about it.

Scarlett Moffatt reveals why she turned down Strictly Come Dancing

‘It’s an incredible show and I feel so honoured to be asked to be part of it,’ says Laura.

‘I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly petrified too!’

The news was announced on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw on Wednesday morning and Laura admitted she was feeling a bit emotional now that it’s all out in the open.

‘It’s real now, isn’t it?’ the Irish star confessed. ‘I’ve known for a while but it’s so secretive, it’s crazy. You’ve got fake names and stuff like that.’

And it sounds like Laura has long harboured a passion to have the Strictly experience.

‘I remember as a kid my mum said “one day you will do Strictly”. She’s very happy,’ the blonde star explained.

‘I like to dance. When I was a kid I Irish danced one summer but I think ballroom and Latin are a little bit different.

‘I’m going to train as much as possible. I really hope I’m good.’

Laura’s announcement has pleased many fans who think she could be one to watch on the dance floor.

‘That’s a ratings winner,’ one commented on Twitter, whilst another wrote: ‘lovely! She will be brilliant!’

Donning the sequins will be quite a different experience for Laura, who is perhaps best known for going to the jungle to present I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off show. She’s also a host on MTV.

Laura has lots of celeb mates who can cheer her on too, including former Strictly champion Caroline Flack.

The presenter joins politician Ed Balls and singer Will Young in the 2016 Strictly line-up, with more names set to be announced shortly ahead of the show kicking off in September – we can’t wait!
