Fans wanted Danniella back as Sam Mitchell and they've got their wish
The actress, 42, has confirmed that she’ll be back in Albert Square as Sam Mitchell to be part of Peggy Mitchell’s final scenes this summer and she’s pretty happy about it.
‘I’m really excited to be going back to EastEnders,’ Danniella tells The Mirror.
‘It feels right the Mitchells are all back for Peggy’s funeral, and I can’t wait to work alongside everyone again.’
Sadly for Sam fans, Danniella’s comeback will only be short-lived but it sounds like the scenes will be very memorable.
‘It is only right that all of Peggy Mitchell’s children would be at her funeral,’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins says.
‘Danniella is the final piece of the Mitchell jigsaw puzzle, so it will be great for viewers to see Phil, Grant and Sam all back on screen.
‘Sam will only be back for a few episodes, but these scenes are bound to go down in the soap’s history.’
It comes after many fans called for Danniella’s return when it was announced that Ross Kemp – aka Grant Mitchell – would be coming back last month.
The duo will join brother Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, to say goodbye to mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor) following her battle with cancer.
Danniella Westbrook last appeared in the show six years ago and went on to have a stint in Hollyoaks in 2013.
The actress’s personal life sparked concern during the height of her soap career. She struggled with cocaine addiction and, whilst she spent a decade clean, she admitted to a relapse after her recent marriage breakdown.
However, Danniella is clean now and is clearly over the moon to be heading back to EastEnders again.
‘Thank you all 4 your lovely messages. Yes the bitch is back aka Sam Mitchell but only for a few episodes,’ she Tweeted this morning.
‘I’m so happy 2 play Sam again’
We can’t wait to see you back, Ms Westbrook!
