Forget the John Lewis ad - this unlikely duet between James Corden and Kylie Minogue is the most moving thing to happen this Christmas...
Yes, you’re reading that headline right – James Corden and Kylie Minogue have recorded a Christmas duet! And we’re more than a little blown away by it.
The song – a cover of Only You, which was a hit for 80s band Yazoo back in the day – apparently started out as a joke between the Gavin & Stacey star and the Australian pop princess.
But now the track is set to feature on Kyls’ upcoming festive album, Kylie Christmas, after music industry bosses were impressed with the recording.
And we can totally see why! It’s a moving performance from not just Kylie but also James, who sings with the voice of an angel – and surprisingly seems to take the high notes during the song’s initial chorus! But don’t worry, he totally nails them.
Even so, James revealed he was nervous for his fans to hear the track ahead of its release, writing on Twitter: ‘I’m so nervous/excited for you all to hear this!!!! X’
Of course, the fact that he can sing comes as no surprise really. We always knew had a decent pair of lungs on him after that epic scene in the Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special where he sings Do They Know It’s Christmas? down the phone to Mathew Horne.
Plus there are all those Carpool Karaoke videos from his new role as the host of The Late Late Show in America. We just can’t stop watching the latest one of him singing Talk Dirrty with Jason Derulo!
Sadly, there’s no video of Kylie and James serenading each other (yet – we live in hope!), but there IS this beautiful lyric video, which is probably the most lovely thing you’ll watch all Christmas (sorry, John Lewis and your Man On The Moon)…
Kylie Christmas is due for release on 13 December, and features additional duets with the likes of Iggy Pop, Dannii Minogue and even a post-homous performance from the late Frank Sinatra.
