Jamiroquai singer longs to go camping in Scottish highlands
The idea of Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay – the flash badboy of the London party scene – tending a fire on a blustery Scottish hillside may seem unlikely, but that’s precisely what the talented singer plans.
Jay Kay, 36, says he’s so tired of the celeb lifestyle and paparazzi hounding him that he’s decided he wants to head for the wilds of Scotland.
‘Don’t get me wrong, I still love music,’ he insists, ‘It’s the crap that goes with it that I don’t particularly like.
‘I’m so tired of all that. I think there are more wholesome and substantial things to do with your life than be stuck in the corner of a room with people crowding round taking pictures of you with their mobile phones. I really would rather be on a cold mountainside.’
Now the Virtual Insanity singer plans to take a year off to live under canvas. He says: ‘When you’re camping, life’s about preparing food, going for walks, washing your face in streams, pouring over Ordnance Survey maps, going to bed when the sun goes down and getting up at dawn.
‘It’s brilliant. Life’s so simple. It’s the only time I feel like I’ve got any real control.’
