The actress was forbidden from telling her closest pals she was going to star in the series

Jenna-Louise Coleman has revealed she was sworn to secrecy after getting the part of Doctor Who’s new sidekick in the popular show.

Former Emmerdale star Jenna-Louise, 26, was thrilled to be offered the role alongside Matt Smith, 30, but found keeping it a secret difficult.

‘My friends knew I was auditioning but didn’t know what it was for,’ she says. ‘I thought I was going to have to keep it secret for about five months so I had to tell them I didn’t get the part.

‘I spun this web of lies and it got very extravagant.’

The actress found it even harder when it came to telling her mates the truth after keeping up the charade for so long.

‘I live with a couple of my old school friends, so I had to make a decision about which ones to tell first,’ she tells the Daily Mirror.

‘I didn’t want to end up with them all saying, “You told her before you told me?”

‘Some were initially put out about the lies. But they were all really pleased for me.’
