Jez was arrested then released on Thursday

Jeremy McConnell has been released after he was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police told MailOnline on Thursday: ‘A 27-year-old man arrested earlier today on suspicion of assault and criminal damage has been released pending a disposal decision.’

The Irish model and reality TV star was arrested as he arrived back in the UK from Ireland on Thursday morning following allegations he assaulted former girlfriend Stephanie Davis.

Former Hollyoaks star Steph – who gave birth to her and Jeremy’s first child, son Caben Albi, in January – was said to be ‘shaken and distressed’ after reportedly being forced to call police.

A source told Mirror Online that the incident left Stephanie in tears, adding: ‘Steph is really shaken after picking up the phone and calling police.’

Jeremy’s release comes after he voluntarily handed himself over to police in Merseyside, as a police spokesperson confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

A statement said: ‘Following a report of an assault at an address in (Liverpool), a man has this morning (March 16) been arrested. A 27-year-old man from Liverpool city centre has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after voluntarily attending a police station on Merseyside. He remains in police custody for questioning.’

Jez was said to be cooperating with police, with a source telling The Sun: ‘Jeremy has flown back to Liverpool for questioning.

‘He is continuing to cooperate with officers as they investigate the claim further. He’s hoping to fly back to Ireland later this evening.’

Steph was named as Jeremy’s alleged victim hours after it was first revealed he was being investigated by police over the reported assault.

A complaint was made on Sunday following the alleged altercation last Thursday. However a representative for 27-year-old Jez denied the allegations, releasing a statement to The Sun on Tuesday which read: ‘Jeremy denies any wrong doing, however he is fully cooperating with the police in their investigations.’

The news first broke Tuesday evening, with a police spokesperson confirming at the time: ‘Merseyside Police can confirm a report was received of an assault at a property on Thursday 9 March.

‘Officers were contacted on Sunday, 12 March and an investigation into the incident is on-going.

‘At this time no arrests have been made.’
