Even Olympic medallists need a day off

For most of us the festive season involves at least a few days of food, family and fizz but having just one day off is a luxury for Jessica Ennis

The Team GB athlete has had a pretty impressive year.

After winning a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics and planning her wedding, you’d think that she’d be ready for a much-needed holiday, but it seems there’s no stopping the golden girl.

‘I move my week around so that my rest day is on Christmas Day,’ says Jessica, 26.

‘This year I’m having all of my family over and will cook with my fiancé Andy – I can’t wait.’

Her strict training regime doesn’t leave much space for indulgence so Jessica makes the most of Christmas dinner.

‘I train on Boxing Day, so I feel I can maximise what I eat on Christmas Day!’ she says.

‘Christmas is great and I think you should enjoy it and indulge.’
